first time on set

Today is back to the norm, which let me clearly state is no bad thing as my norm is often intellectually intriguing, professionally challenging, and personally rewarding.

But I digressed.

Today is back to the norm, but yesterday…yesterday I was on a film set for the first time ever.

For nearly two months, the Havik Entertainment Dance Troupe has been on the grind promoting Havik in Hip Hop, a stage production that explores concepts integral to the life and essence of Hip Hop as entity.  These concepts take form as characters, each embodied by a single dancer who fully manifests that concept’s dimensionality, both dark and light.

TERRITORY • VIOLENCE • UNITY • ABUSE

SEX • GANGS • PRIDE • STEREOTYPE • STRENGTH

ABUNDANCE • TALENT • CRITICISM • WEALTH

POWER • LIFE • GREED • DRIVE

Three weeks ago, we attracted the interest of Erica Williams and Jody Jacquinot, who have been instrumental in making yesterday’s shoot possible.  The vision that bore Havik in Hip Hop, character intros, feature solos, group captures. This is the meat for a promotional DVD, the crux of investor/sponsor-seeking efforts.  And our director: Angel Ruiz, winner of San Tan Short Film Festival Best Horror/Sci-Fi honors for Embryo in 2007 and for Dead Last in 2006.

And so yesterday was a first, and certainly hopefully not a last.

In the meantime, (warning: shameless plug ahead) we will continue our grind (reviewed by @jeremyvaught) every Wednesday night at downtown CasaBlanca Lounge (1801 W. Van Buren in Phoenix).
